Building Tomorrow’s Leaders in Community Safety and Service
The Middlesex Borough Cadet Program, operating under the Middlesex Borough Office of Emergency Management (OEM), is a dynamic youth training initiative designed to inspire, educate, and empower the next generation of community leaders with regard to Emergency Management Function. This program is open to Middlesex Borough Youth between 14 and 18 years old, this program provides hands‑on experience in emergency preparedness, public safety, and community service.
What the Cadet Program Offers
The Cadet Program gives local teens an opportunity to learn essential skills, work alongside trained OEM personnel, and contribute meaningfully to the safety and resilience of Middlesex Borough. Participants gain exposure to real‑world emergency management practices through structured education, supervised activities, and team‑based training.
Cadets learn about:
Emergency response basics
Disaster preparedness and community safety
First aid awareness
Communication skills and teamwork
The role of municipal government in emergencies
Supporting OEM activities during community events
This program encourages discipline, responsibility, and leadership—qualities that benefit Cadets in school, future careers, and everyday life.
A Focus on Personal Responsibility and Preparedness
Cadets also learn the importance of personal and family preparedness, mirroring the broader mission of Middlesex Borough OEM. Through hands‑on training sessions, they become familiar with evacuation routes,Transition Center operations, emergency communications, and the critical importance of readiness during natural disasters and other emergencies. Cadets gain skills they can use not only within the program but throughout their lives.
Opportunities for Community Engagement
Throughout the year, Cadets assist OEM at local events, preparedness outreach activities, and public education initiatives. These experiences help teens build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and develop a strong sense of civic responsibility.
Who Can Join?
The program is open to Middlesex Borough youth ages 14 through 18 who are interested in public service, emergency response, or simply learning how they can better support their community. No prior experience is required—just a willingness to learn, grow, and participate.
