The Middlesex Board of Health contracts with the Somerset County Department of Health (SCDOH) for the provision of public health services. The services consist of regular inspections for a variety of establishments, health education, public health nursing services, and communicable disease and control prevention.
The Middlesex County Office of Health Services still provides services under the County Environmental Health Services Act in conjunction with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Middlesex County also continues to provide services under the NJ LINCS Program as well as Tuberculosis Services within Middlesex County.

The many services your health department provides fall into two categories: mandated services and elective services. A short list of the mandated services includes providing health officer services, laboratory services, public health nursing services, food establishment and swimming pool inspections, communicable and occupational disease investigations, maternal & child health services, adult health services and numerous other programs. Examples of our elective services include educational programs, environmental pollution investigations, tobacco sale enforcement, home health care, and our radon-testing program. Food Handlers Course
The Food Handlers course is intended to heighten awareness of pertinent State Laws and Municipal Ordinances regarding food handling, preparation, and hygiene. Each Course is taught by a NJ Licensed Registered Environmental Health Specialist and/or Health Educator.
The basic food handler course is online and in different languages through ServSafe. The course and exam are for individuals currently working in a food establishment or establishment where food is served and/or prepared. Topics of the course and exam include food safety basics, personal hygiene, time and temperature control, cross-contamination prevention, cleaning and sanitizing, and more.
