Blue Acres Voluntary Flood Buyouts

Blue Acres is an optional program available to homeowners that offers to purchase homes that are at high risk of flooding. The goal is to help homeowners move to safer areas, reduce the risk of future flood damage, and restore natural spaces like wetlands that can absorb floodwater. After the buyout, the land is turned into state-owned open space.

The program provides homeowners with the option to sell their land to the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, move out of harm's way and stop the cycle of repetitive flooding and property loss.
