Summer Playground Program

Registration for our Summer Playground program is officially open!

We can't wait to welcome your K-5th grade kiddos to a summer full of fun and adventure.

  • June 24th through August 2nd

  • Monday to Friday, 9AM to noon

Two fantastic options to suit your needs

  • Entire Summer Session: For $275, your child can enjoy every moment of our summer program, from start to finish!

  • Weekly Fee: Prefer a more flexible schedule? No problem! Register your child for specific weeks at just $70 per week.

From games and sports to crafts and educational activities, there's something for every child to enjoy. Plus, we have a FUN, new destination planned for our camp trip that your kids won't want to miss. But hurry – registration ends on May 31st! Summer Wrestling Camp

Grades 3-8 (exceptions will be made to youth wrestlers with 1-2 years of experience)
June 24-June 27 • 9am-12pm
Middlesex High School Wrestling Room

$150 registration ($90 each additional sibling)

Participants will learn different skills/drills in all three positions, that are directly from the Middlesex Wrestling system. The goal is to build on basic middle, high school, and college-level technique, fundamental skills, and gain live wrestling experience/matches.

Spring Basketball Clinic

Wednesday evenings for 8 weeks
Starting 4/17
Grades 3-8 from 5-6pm
Grades 9-12 from 7-8:30pm
$60 registration fee • Middlesex High School Gym

Middlesex Recreation along with Middlesex HS Basketball are pleased to present basketball clinics to boys and girls in grades 3 through 12 who reside in Middlesex. These sessions are intended to practice previously acquired skills and learn new ones. Team play will be emphasized & practice drills will be demonstrated. Learn the fundamentals of the game!

Spring Yoga Sessions

8 weeks of Sunday Classes
Begin April 14 • 7-8pm
With Joy Provenzano at the Middlesex Recreation Center

ALL LEVELS WELCOME. Registration fee $80. (Drop-in class cost $15/per.) *classes on 4/26, 5/12, & 5/26 will be 9:45-10:45am.

2024 Youth Baseball & Softball

Volunteer Coaches Needed!

Tee-Ball, Coach pitch (coed),  Softball (girls), Baseball (boys)

Practices: once a week at coaches’ discretion.
Games: Saturday and possibly during the week.
Leagues: Teams play either in an intertown league with Dunellen or Somerville

Buddy Ball

Buddy Ball is designed for athletes with special needs & IEP’s to play a game/sport with the assistance a peer aged “Buddy.” Coaches will oversee the teams and provide guidance to the activity. Equipment will be provided. This program is designed for all to have fun in a stress-free environment.

The Spring Program is running at Hazelwood School April 17 through May 22 from 6-7pm.

Spring Toddler Playgroup

Playgroup promotes play, imagination, sharing and fun for children ages 1-5 or has walking/cruising ability! Three seasonal sessions are offered (Fall, Winter, Spring). Sessions are 8 weeks long.

Winter 2023-2024 Activities, Classes, and Sports

Adult Basketball

Wednesdays • January 10—March 6, 2024
Von E. Mauger Gorman Gym • 8- 9 pm

Adult Basketball is open to Borough residents who are at least 18 years old AND post-high school. program will be run as an open gym/pickup format once a week for one hour. Good sportsmanlike conduct is mandatory. Appropriate footwear required.

Basketball (Grades K-2)

Boys and Girls in Grades K–2
Deadline to Register: November 3
January - February

Grades 1&2 | Parent volunteers lead a weekly session that will start with skills and drills and end with a modified scrimmage. Friday evenings from 6-7PM for 8 weeks in the Watchung gym starting 1/12/24. Volunteer coaches needed!

Kindergarten | FUNdamental Basketball – Learn the FUNdamentals of the game including blocking, dribbling, passing, shooting and sportsmanship. 8-week session by Christine DiNizio on Wednesdays starting 1/10/24 from 6-7PM in Watchung gym.

Basketball (Grades 3-8)

Boys and Girls in Grades 3–8
Deadline to Register: November 3
1-hour weeknight practice + Fri/Sat games
December - March

Teams are divided by gender and are split into divisions for 3rd&4th grade, 5th&6th grade, and 7th&8th grade. Most games are held on Saturdays but may be Friday night(s) depending on registration numbers. Teams will play in a recreation based inter-town league. READ MORE in the flyer (link below).

All games K-5 will be played on Saturdays from September-November. Grades 6-8 may play during the week. Practice is once a week and at the complete discretion of the volunteer coach.

Practice will be held on days Monday-Friday and times 6:00PM – 8:30PM in the Middlesex High School Wrestling Room at the coach’s discretion and availability. Time will vary by grade and/or weight class.

Registration fees:
$150 with a singlet • $100 without a singlet

Five biweekly games (June 28, July 12 and 26, and August 9 and 23. Games will be played at Charlie Morgan/Runyon Field off Hallock Ave in Middlesex. Registration fee: Resident $50, non-resident $60.

Middlesex Recreation alongside Middlesex HS Wrestling Coach Ryan Boyd is running a 4-day wrestling camp along with other members of the MHS wrestling coaching staff, alumni, and current MHS wrestlers. Participants in grades 3-8 are preferred, but exceptions will be made to youth wrestlers with 1-2 years of experience. Summer Happy Camper Club

Children entering Pre-4 and Kindergarten (ages 4-5)

Our department is committed to providing a safe environment for the residents while focusing on participation and fun. We offer many activities for toddlers, youth and adults, including leisure programs that are safe, stimulating, and fun! Special events and services are also provided through the department. You can register for these programs through our online portal below.

SERVICES WE OFFER:

  • Adult Programs - The Recreation Department offers programs to adults who are 18 years of age and over, post high school and a borough resident.

  • Youth Programs - The Recreation Department offers many programs to the youth of our town. Participants must meet age and/or grade requirements and have at least one parent who resides within the Borough.

  • Toddler Programs - The Recreation Department offers programs for toddlers and pre-school age children who are at least one year of age and walking.

  • Special Events - The Recreation Department sponsors several special events throughout the year. These events help in bringing our community together!

  • Discount Tickets/Services - The Recreation Department offers various services such as discount tickets for amusement parks and movie theatres.
